Equipment

  • Air fryer (any standard basket-style or oven-style)
  • Meat thermometer (highly recommended)
  • Mixing bowl
  • Tongs
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Paper towels
  • Small bowl for spice mix

Ingredients

  • 2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (about 6–8 oz each)
  • tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ¾ teaspoon salt adjust to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder optional, for mild heat
  • Juice of ½ lemon optional but recommended

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  • Pat the chicken breasts completely dry with paper towels. This is very important. If the surface is wet, the seasoning won’t stick well.
  • If the chicken breasts are thick on one end, gently pound them to even thickness. This ensures even cooking.

Step 2: Season Generously

  • In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper, and chili powder.
  • Rub the chicken with olive oil on both sides. Then coat it evenly with the spice mixture. Press the seasoning in gently.
  • Let it sit for 10–15 minutes if you have time. Even this short rest improves flavor.

Step 3: Preheat the Air Fryer

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for about 3–5 minutes.
  • Preheating makes a difference. It helps create that slight crust right away.

Step 4: Cook

  • Place the chicken breasts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overlap.
  • Cook at 375°F for:
  • 7–8 minutes on the first side
  • Flip
  • Cook another 6–8 minutes
  • Total time is usually 14–16 minutes, depending on thickness.
  • Check the internal temperature. It must reach 165°F.

Step 5: Rest (Do Not Skip This!)

  • Remove the chicken and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Resting allows the juices to redistribute. If you cut too soon, the juices will run out — and we don’t want that.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top before serving
